About Australia

Australia is one of the worlds most popular countries to study with over 500,000 students studying every year. The main reasons for this are:

  • A laid back attitude to life.
  • A cosmopolitan multi cultural attitude. More than 1 in 4 residents in Australia are migrants.
  • A well recognised education system.
  • The fact that you can also work while studying.
  • Great weather, active outdoor lifestyle and high standard of living.

Living Expenses:

Accommodation:
Most students stay in hostels for the first 2 weeks on arrival until they have found an apartment or house. A hostel will cost approx €20 per night in Sydney. When renting an apartment you are expected to pay a security of 1 month deposit and pay 1 month rent in advance. A months rent is approx 500 euro per person.

Other Costs
An average international student in Australia can expect to pay about A$250 a week on the following:

food;
clothing;
entertainment;
transport;
international and domestic travel;
telephone; and
incidental costs.

Average Salary as a student is AUD$19-$AUD20 per hour. Note that if you have a student visa you are only entitled to work 20 hours maximum. On a working holiday visa you can work unlimited hours. This is why most students will choose working holiday visas.

Courses in Australia

90% of students arriving into Australia will study English language courses on arrival. The main reason is that for many non English language courses you will need to demonstrate that you have an ielts score of at least 7 to be eligible for a position as you would in most cases be studying with native English speakers.

95% of students arriving to study in Australia will study in Sydney. Sydney is generally chosen as the preferred study destination as it has a good combination of accessible colleges, employment and beach and city life.
