Staff Visa

Your eligibility for the Oz Film and Media Staff Visa depends on your intended role in the production in Australia.

Documentary and Commercial Makers
This visa is available for television and film crews including actors, production staff, support staff and still-photographers who need to work in Australia on the production of documentary programmes or commercials. Your productions must be for initial distribution outside of Australia and the Department of Immigration but be satisfied that:

• there is no suitable person in Australia who is capable and available to do the work;
• the work is not contrary to the interests of Australia.

You will need to be sponsored if you intend on staying in Australia for more than 3 months on a film and media visa under this category.

Journalists, Correspondents or Reporters
If you are a journalist, correspondent or reporter representing an overseas news organisation you may be eligible for this Australian work visa. You will need to be sponsored if you intend to stay in Australia for more than 3 months and you will need to meet the following criteria:

If your news organisation is not represented in Australia, immigration must be satisfied that:

• the representation of your news organisation in Australia would not be contrary to the interests of Australia;
• your organisation will financially support you during your time in Australia and will ensure your departure before the expiry date of your visa.

If your news organisation is represented in Australia, immigration must be satisfied that:

• there is no suitable person in Australia who is capable and available to do the work;
• the work would not be contrary to the interests of Australia.

Country to Country Agreements
You may be eligible for this Australian visa if you will be entering Australia temporarily under an agreement between Australia and your country. You will need to:

• provide evidence that your stay in Australia has been agreed to by the relevant authorities in Australia and your country;
• satisfy Australian immigration that your visa application meets the requirements of the country to country agreement.
