List of Eligible Occupations

NB!! Changes Expected to the Federal Skilled Worker Program

Note: As of July 1, 2012, CIC has temporarily stopped accepting applications for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). This temporary pause does not apply to those with a qualifying job offer or applying under the PhD stream. We will start accepting applications again on May 4, 2013 when changes to FSWP selection criteria take effect.

A maximum of 20,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications will be considered for processing from June 26, 2010 till June 26, 2011. Within the 20,000 cap, a maximum of 1,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing each year. These limits do not apply to applications with an offer of arranged employment.

The Canadian Federal Skilled programme aims to attract migrants with highly employable skills and experience to Canada. Successful applicants can live and work in Canada as permanent residents.

The Canada Federal Skilled Visa uses a points-based system to determine your eligibility. You score points for your age, education, work experience, language ability and adaptability and you need to get 67 to be eligible. Visit Am I Eligible for more information.

With a high standard of living, well-developed education system and great National Health Care system, Canada is a fantastic destination for people looking to migrate abroad. The country is also experiencing skills shortages in several key professions including engineers, doctors and nurses. Independent experts estimate there will be a shortfall of 3 million skilled workers in Canada by 2020 so now is a great time to look at making the move!
