New data released from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship show that a lot of Australia visitors overstay their visa and remain illegally after their visa has expired. In the 12 months to June 2012 19,570 people outstayed their leave to remain in Australia. This is double the number who did so in 2007 (9330). In the month of April 2012 alone, 4,300 people outstayed their permission to remain. A according to the DIAC report many of these overstayers are working holiday makers and they have remained just several days more, usually by mistake. He said that more than 99% of the total number of visitors in Australia during 2012 complied with the requirement to leave Australia before expiration date of their visa. The recent immigration compliance operations of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship led to 25% increase in the number of overstayers and illegal immigrants deported from Australia
