Tier 1 Points System            


The United Kingdom (UK) government operates the Tier 1 Points-based system to allow individuals with exceptional skills to seek entry or stayto work in the UK without having a prior offer of employment, or to take up self-employment opportunities.It has been very successful since it was introduced on 28 January 2002. On 30 June 2008 the Tier 1 was introduced and the overallpoints score required for approval was set to 75 points, plus 10 points for proficiency in English and 10 points for available maintenance (funds).

Age
This assessment is intended to recognize that it is more difficult for a highly skilled young graduate to score maximum points in the past earnings category, compared to an older counterpart with the same level of skills.

Qualification
You will gain points based on degree level qualication, or professional level qualifications.
PhD - pt50
A Masters Degree or Professional level qualification - pt35
Bachelors Degree - pt30
None of the above - pt0
Earning power
You can claim points for your previous earnings obtained from your work. Assessed will be your gross earnings before tax over a total period of 12 months out of the 15 months immediately prior to your application.
