Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced that there will be a new pass mark for the SkillSelect visa. SkillSelect is a new internet service that is designed by the Australian government, in order to help the immigration authorities to manage the Australian Skilled Migration Program. In order to apply for an Australian visa, applicants, who have not secured employer sponsorship, must first submit Expression of Interest (EOI) online. On the basis of the education and the experience, which applicants have, they will be given certain amount of points. The candidates that have highest amount of points will be invited to apply for an Australian visa. According to the new rules, the pass mark for the new SkillSelect visa subclasses 189, 190 and 489 will be adjusted to 60 points. The existing general skilled migration visas subclasses 175, 176, 475, 487, 885 and 886 will retain their current passmark of 65 points. The expectations of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship are that under the new SkillSelect visa there will be more applications from candidates who posses working skills and experience needed in Australia.
