UK border official cancelled their strike which they had been planning for 26 of July - the first day of the 2012 London Olympic Games. The strike would have included border staff that is responsible for passport and visa checks on the Heathrow airport and could have possibly created significant delays and disruption of the border checks as the Olympic visitors come to London General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) Mark Serwotka said that there is a significant progress in the negotiations between the government and the unions. A promise of new investment and 1,100 new jobs, was what persuaded the workers to call of the planned strike. Stertowka added that he is happy that the issue is resolved because a potential border delays on the first day of the Olympic Games could have been extremely harmful for the international image of Great Britain.
