The number of women out of work for more than a year has soared by almost a FIFTH.
Official figures show the unemployment rate remained at 14.2 per cent in February, with 439,422 people claiming benefits. But while the number of male claimants dropped by 8,356 to 283,450, the figures for women on benefits rose by 3,479 to 155,972.
The number of women on the dole for more than 12 months also rose by 8,199 (19 per cent) while the amount of men went up by 12,531 (10.4 per cent).
Meanwhile, emigration experts Visafirst.com have predicted 6,000 Irish workers will be granted residencies in Canada this year – on a par with Australia.
Latest Central Statistics Office figures show 40,200 emigrated last year, up 45 per cent on 2010.
