The quota of 6350 Canadian Working Holiday Visas available for Irish Citizens was filled in just two days. According to Cathy Murphy, executive director of the Toronto-based Irish Canadian Immigration Centre, everyone expected a high demand, but it was still surprising the rate at which the free places were filled. According to many immigration experts the reason for the high demand is the good shape of the Canadian economy, which in comparison with the struggling Irish labor market is not heavily affected by the global economic recession. The Canadian Working Holiday Visa is formally called International Experience Canada Program. It allow to young people aged between 18 and 30 years to live and work in Canada from one to two years.
