The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship has simplified the visa application process and has introduced a new visa for highly qualified foreign workers.
This announcement will be a leading new for many businesses, tourists and immigrant workers who visit Australia and complain about the lengthy, complex visa application procedures and the large number of visa subclasses which they need to navigate through.
In addition to that, a new short term visa will be introduced for people who want to visit Australia in order to perform highly specialized temporary work.
This visa will cover various occupations such as athletes, entertainers and other highly skilled individuals who have been invited Down Under to take part in events.
The new visa will however not affect the currently existing 457 temporary visa which is one of the most important tools for attracting short term foreign workers in Australia.
The 457 visas have recently become a target for severe criticism from Australia labour unions who think that it is flooding Australia with skilled foreign workers at the expense of long training programs for Australian citizens.
A new streamlined medical treatment visa that provides for a stay of up to 12 months has also been launched. Along with the new visas, the government has rationalised the existing visa application process to help attract global talent.
There will be no change to current visa eligibility for tourism, business visitor activities, sponsored family visits and medical treatment.
The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship promised that it will reduce a large number of visa subclasses by the end of 2015.
