On 15 Aug, India finally opened its e-visa program for British nationals. The UK is one of the 113 nationalities eligible for Indian e-Tourist visa. The whole process and paperwork is much easier and cheaper. The aim of the Indian government is to boost tourism in India. Indian eVisa is for people who want to visit India for tourism, i.e. recreation and sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives; or for business visits.
An Indian government statement said: “With this addition, the total count of countries under the scheme will go up to 113. Simultaneously, we are going to add seven more Indian airports as designated airports for entry on e-Tourist Visa from 15th August 2015.”
Around 800,000 British citizens visit India every year. India announced that 7.68 million foreigners visited the country last year.
Those willing to travel to India on e-TV should apply at least 4 days before the date of travel. This is because, the visa is not issued automatically, once the application is submitted, travellers get their entry documents within 4 days via email. The application process is simplified for Britons – no need to make a paper application. The passport should be valid at least six months from the date of arrival in India and all applicants should carry a copy of the e-visa while travelling.
This visa is valid for 30 days from the day of arrival in India.
