United States relaxes visa application rules for Indian citizens
United States Government has announced that it will decrease the visa application requirements for Indian citizens who want to visit the USA. Under the new rules, children younger than seven years must not appear in the visa interview with their parents.
Furthermore, applicants will not be charged with additional fees if they are applying again after their visa was put on hold or pending. The consulate of the United States in Mumbai has now more than forty windows to streamline the visa application process and decrease the waiting for an interview with a consular officer.
India is still not a part of the US Visa Waiver Program; therefore all Indian citizens who want to visit the United States must apply for a visitor visa in order to obtain the right to enter the country.
People from the countries which participate in the US Visa Waiver Program can visit the USA for up to 90 days without the need to apply for a visa. Some of the countries which presently are part of the program include Germany, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand and France.
People who are citizens of countries eligible for the US Visa Waiver Program still need to file an application for the online Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
The application is used in order to determine whether the visitors are eligible to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. ESTA applicants must meet the following requirements:
They must be citizens of a country which participates in the Visa Waiver Program
They must not possess a visitor visa at the time when they apply for ESTA
They must not intend to stay in the USA for more than 90 days.
The main objective of their travel must be business or holiday.
