About the UK Youth Mobility Scheme visa (Tier 5)

General Information

The UK Youth Mobility Scheme Visa is available for young people who would like to live and work in the UK.

This visa is valid for up to two years and is suitable for those aged 18-30.

Once your visa is approved, you can enter and leave the UK at any time while the visa is valid.

You can only secure the UK Youth Mobility Visa once, and when it’s activated you will not be able to apply for it again.

You can apply for this visa within six months before you travel to the UK.


In order to be eligible for this visa, applicants must score 50 points based on the criteria below:

  • You will score 30 points by meeting the nationality requirement if: - You hold a passport from an eligible country (Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Taiwan) OR you are a British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen, British national (overseas)
  • You will score 10 points by meeting the age requirement if: - You are aged 18 to 30
  • You will score 10 points by meeting the maintenance requirement if: - You have £1,890 in savings
  • * You can apply for a visa up to 6 months before you travel.

In order to apply for this visa you will need:

  • A valid passport (your passport should have at least 6 months validity remaining and should have at least one blank page)
  • A bank statement showing you have at least £1,890 in savings
  • Tuberculosis test results – if applicable
  • Health surcharge - please note that additional health surcharge of £600 must be paid to the National Health Service at the time of the application submission
  • * If your documents are not in English or Welsh, they should be accompanied by a certified translation.
  • **Additional documents may be required depending on the case.
