200,000 Visitors Arrived in New Zealand Last Month

The number of international tourists travelling to New Zealand reached a new high in July this year. Almost 200,000 visitors arrived in New Zealand last month compared to 183,000 in July 2013.

While more people visited New Zealand, fewer Kiwis travelled abroad this year – 233,100 travelled overseas which is 2 % compared to July 2013.

41,000 migrants arrived in the country as of July 2014, which is up by 15 per cent over the past year ended July 2013 and the highest number since 2003. 4,500 migrants arrived in New Zealand last month which is the highest net gain since February 2003.

The New Zealanders took 2.23 million overseas trips last year. Their top destinations were the United Kingdom, the United States and Fiji.

While the larger group of tourists visiting New Zealand were from Australia, China and Indonesia.
